Press Commentaries
about Uwe Berkemer as a Composer
(translated from

Frankfurter
Allgemeine Zeitung (5 October 1999) about his Sonata for Cello and
Piano :

... during the
Duo – Evening of Alexander Saleiman (Cello) and Uwe Berkemer (Piano) the
latest opus turned out to be a great surprise as well: Berkemer’s Sonata for
Cello and Piano, composed last year, stylistically the composition of the
pianist and art director of the Dietzenbach Music Festival, born in 1962,
reminded somewhat of Alfred Schmittke, especially during the grotesque
finale. It linked the tonal and melodic pieces with present day expression,
displayed dense work with a reappearing theme and technically demanded very
much in the cello part with its solo cadences. |
