From 1989 to 2005 Uwe Berkemer was teaching in the department of Music at the Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz the subjects of Piano (major and minor) and Composition.

2001 Uwe Berkemer founded a private music academy.

The emphasis here is placed on the intensive preparation of adequately talented students for the entrance examination of German music academies and conservatories.

Besides instrumental and vocal training the teaching also comprises the subject: General Music Theory, Composing and Training of the Musical Ear.
